Active Matter beginner guide

Active Matter is an extraction-style online shooter set across quantum-unstable zones. Your first goal is not to clear every room. It is to learn the return loop: enter with a manageable kit, read the zone, recover useful items, and leave before one greedy fight turns the run into a reset.

1. Learn the return loop

The official game description frames raids around bringing back weapons and loot, then using Active Matter at base to replicate selected items. Treat every run as a choice between information, equipment, and a safe extraction.

2. Pack for the first hour

  • Carry a weapon you can replace without regret and enough ammunition for one planned fight.
  • Keep healing and a little spare capacity ahead of cosmetic or low-priority loot.
  • Use the inventory suggestion button when you are unsure which slots need a suitable item; it was added in a recent update.

3. Read the zone before pushing deeper

Anomalies can twist gravity and reshape space. Monsters and other operatives share the same pressure points, so a clean room is not proof that the next room is safe. Pause at thresholds, listen, and decide whether the route improves your chance of getting out.

4. Build knowledge, not a perfect loadout

Keep a short note of unfamiliar items, enemy behavior, and extraction choices after each raid. Early progress comes from reducing surprises. High-value kits make more sense after you know the route that supports them.
